Overview
There are competition and game day/sideline events that can be considered beyond your local Special Olympics Program.
Special Olympics and Special Abilities, Traditional and Unified teams are welcome to apply for the International Cheer Union’s World Cheerleading Championships and/or an upcoming Game Day/Sideline Program at a Special Olympics World Games. Teams participating are responsible for their own expenses.
Before beginning the application process, it is important to have full support from members of the team and families. Also, notify your local Special Olympics Program about your team’s interest.

game day cheer
Special Olympics, Special Abilities and Unified cheer teams can take part in the next Game Day/Sideline Program at a Special Olympics World Games.
During the World Games, spirit leaders cheer on the athletes and energize the fans at selected sports competitions, perform a routine to music during half-time and at special events. The age requirement is age 12 years old to adult.
Spirit leaders demonstrate their skills and techniques, raise awareness about Special Olympics and spread cheer to everyone. It is an experience to be remembered for a lifetime.
