competitive cheer
Overview
The #1 goal is to train athletes for a Special Olympics competition. The two disciplines that may be offered are Cheerleading and Performance Cheer. For either discipline, here is an overview of options to consider:
- Individual, Doubles, Team
- A Traditional or Unified team (Traditional- athletes with intellectual disabilities competing together. Unified- athletes with and without intellectual disabilities competing together.)
- The Traditional or Unified team can be part of a school, local community program or a Special Abilities team from an All star Cheer or Rec program.
- Team size options include: Small team 4 to 15 athletes; Large team 16 to a maximum of 24.
- Age requirement: Athletes age 8 years to adult are eligible to compete.
- 1 to 2 Qualifiers and a competition prepare athletes for the competitive experience.
- Athletes perform in front of Judges who will assess motions, crowd leading, skills incorporation such as jumps, tumbling, stunting and dance/choreography.
- Team uniform may be a well fitted t-shirt and shorts or a traditional cheer uniform. For more details visit the Uniforms and Accessories page.

cheerleading
- Levels of competition include: Introductory, Level 0, 1 or 2
- Two categories:
(1) Game Day – the traditional crowd leading format of cheers and chants.
(2) Routine – the traditional crowd leading, cheers and chants and music routine. - Props may include signs, megaphones and poms.
performance cheer
- The four genres include: Pom, Hip Hop, Jazz and High Kick.
- Perform routine to music.
- Poms required for Pom Division.
